Woo-hoo! Finally found the answer to the jet-lag - take sleeping tablets! Left San Francisco today for Napa wine country - the Golden Gate bridge looked amazing as we left with fog rolling in underneath.
Made strange stop at a botanical garden en route to Napa where they dragged us around to look at some rare trees; we were all the while wondering where the wine was!
Had lunch in picturesque Sonoma (including a vile purple margherita) followed by a trip to Ravenswood Winery where we blended our own bottles of wine using pipettes - thankfully they gave us some fine blends of their own to try too. chatted to lady who is on trip on her own & doesn’t drink at all - of course she would have to be Irish leading to much sniggering from the brits & yanks...why do a wine tour?...
After checking into our hotel in Napa (& Tom, had locked his toothbrush in the safe away from the maid) we headed off on the Napa wine train. My veggie appetizer once again contained chicken - why do yanks not think chicken is a meat?! anyway, nice experience with good company, great food & some very fine wine - the pretentious blurb they gave us on train said they were fine 07-esque wines!
Ended night having to move rooms as offered upgrade to great river view room - sometimes it pays to work for the company!; meanwhile Tom (back in his disabled room where you can only shower if sitting on the chair in the shower...) following on from random chat on train, was researching if anyone had ever stolen a crop of grapes - here’s the most bizarre story he found....
